An Apple iPhone has exploded in the face of a French security guard, the Agence France-Presse reports, in what is the second case of its kind in France recently.

Yassine Bouhadi, a 26-year-old supermarket watchman from the southeastern town of Villevieille, said he was typing a text message on Monday afternoon when the screen exploded.

He added that he was hit in the eye with a glass shard and is "very angry". He plans to consult a doctor and file suit for damages.

"I want an explanation about this damned telephone," said Bouhadi, who bought the device for €600 ($1023.98) three months ago and now wants a refund.

France's consumer affairs department, the DGCCRF, said it had opened an investigation after a French teenager suffered an eye injury in a similar iPhone incident earlier this month.

The manufacturer, Apple, assured the European Union on August 14 that the exploding screen cases reported so far were "isolated incidents." But is nonetheless investigating these latest reports.

iPod controversy
Earlier this month The Times newspaper had reports that Apple tried to make a UK family sign a gagging order, preventing them from discussing their complaint about their exploding iPod.
